My Favourite Books

The Razor's Edge

William Somerset Maugham

This book, written in 1944, has been made into a movie twice. No idea if the movie versions did it justice, but if I were ever to choose one favourite, this would be it.

City of Djinns

William Dalrymple

He knows Delhi like few of us Delhiites ever will. Excellent illustrations by his wife Olivia. Worth every penny.

Pride and Prejudice

jane Austen

She's the most accessible of literary greats, and P&P is one of the most readable classics. Austen had a sharp mind and a great sense of humour. Truly timeless, this one.

The Last Jet Engine Laugh

Ruchir Joshi

Crazy and profound, extremely good-looking writer, sexy book.

My Family and Other Animals

Gerald Durrell

Warm, hilarious and completely un-put-downable.

All Things Bright and Beautiful

James Herriot

Smells of the invigorating winds of Yorkshire and the rich smell of its barns, where Herriot spent most of his life as a vet.
